BMW have recently released details of their intention to spice up the diesel engine and they appear to have done it in spectacular fashion. BMW have announced that their brand new 3.0 triple turbo straight six diesel engine will offer a four-wheel-drive BMW M550d, M550d Touring, BMW X5 M50d and a BMW X6 M50d.
Cameron Clarke Leasing have learned that the new 3.0-litre diesel has two small turbo chargers for when you are travelling at lower revs and minimising turbo lag, but it has a large one for when you are driving hard.
Unfortunately BMW UK have confirmed that only the X5 and X6 will arrive on our shores but this is still exciting times. The early performance figures for the two big SUV’s are a 0-62mph time of 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 155mph, which is staggering for a car this size!
The cars will feature an eight-speed sports automatic gearbox and the M sport tuning of suspension, bodyshell mounting, engine and transmission mounting, springs, dampers, chassis control systems, and mapping for the hydraulic steering. In all this is everything you want an M car to be but in the guise of a diesel.
