Green Leasing
We all want to save the planet but why does have to be so confusing. Trying to decide between a Bio-deisel, electric, or a hybrid could confuse the best of us and that’s without wading through manufacturer claims and newspaper headlines. So here’s a simple guide we can all understand.
Fuel cells:
They may be about as clean as you can get, emitting nothing more than water vapours, but manufacturers have found it difficult to create a mass market solution using a sensible sized converter available at a reasonable price.
Hybrids:
Using an electric motor to compliment a traditional engine they can cut fuel consumption by anything up to 30%. The electric propulsion unit is used at lower speeds, such as around town, whilst the petrol engine kicks in as the speed increases. Now readily available, the big down side is the use of batteries which are far from environmentally friendly.
Bio-diesel:
Derived from a range of plant oils and then combined with traditional diesel to create a useable propulsion source. In principle this is a great idea, however most vehicles currently on the market only guarantee to use up to 5% bio-diesel leaving the vehicle to largely run on the far less environmentally friendly traditional diesel fuel.
Electric:
They may be a logical approach to greener motoring; however they are still serious concerns about the driving range and power capabilities for out of town driving. There also questions about the true cost to the environment due to battery manufacture and disposal processes.
