New 2018 Mercedes-Benz A Class - Spec, release and pictures

Mercedes-Benz have launched the all new A-Class, that will go on sale for UK orders in March 2018 for the A180 & A200 models, with other variations joining the range throughout 2018. The A-Class was the best selling Mercedes in 2017 with 70% of orders coming from the AMG Line.

The new model was launched on the 2nd February in Amsterdam and showcased the eagerly awaited improvements that include a new sleek exterior, re-designed interior that includes a new infotainment system called MBUX and also new petrol and diesel engines with more information below

It has been given a facelift and Mercedes says the new A-Class is the “aerodynamic leader” in its segment. It has a new and improved lower bonnet, a striking radiator grille and newly designed flat LED headlamps with optional Multibeam LED technology with adaptive high-beam assist plus.

The interior is where the biggest changes have taken place. It boasts a premium feel with more space and additional tech.

The A-Class has adapted the freestanding windscreen display that is shown in the E-Class & S-Class, with a touchpad and free standing centre console.

The new infotainment system in the A-class is called MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), which can be personalised for each user through artificial intelligent voice control with natural speech recognition. Just say the words ““Hey Mercedes, where did I drive to yesterday?” or “Hey Mercedes, set the temperature to 21º” and let MBUX do the rest. This is a first in the compact class and the MBUX has only previously been used in the luxury class. The system also gives access to the Mercedes ‘me-connect’ services. Drivers can control the system by voice, touchscreen, touch pad and the touch sensitive panels of the steering wheel.

The car has adopted some of the advanced driver-assistance and safety systems from the S-Class, meaning the hatchback can drive semi-autonomously in certain situations.

Every model in the range will come with Active Brake Assist, which can help prevent rear end collisions and Attention Assist, which will warn the driver if they are showing signs of fatigue. As for space, the car’s length has increased by 120mm, width increases by 16mm and the height by 2mm making it more spacious for should room, elbow room, headroom and entry to the rear seats. The boot space has been increased to 370 litres which is a 29 litre increase from the previous model.

Engines and performance

The initial two engines released will be the A200 & the A180d, with further options being released at a later date.
- The A200, which is a 1.4 litre petrol engine which can reach 0-62 MPH in 8 seconds, develops 161 bhp, fuel economy of 53.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 120g/km.
- The A180d, the diesel option 1.5 litre engine which can reach 0-62 MPH in 10.5 seconds, produces 114bhp, fuel economy of 68.9 mpg and CO2 emissions of 108 g/km.

The new A-Class can be ordered from March 2018, so keep your eyes peeled for more information and get in contact with the office if you would like further information or prices.
