The new Tesla Model 3 is officially here

The first production of the Tesla Model 3 has been built and is ready for delivery to Elon Musk!

There is a production schedule in place for 2017 meaning 30 customers will take delivery of their Model 3 on the 28th July and 100 cars will be produced in August with that figure increasing to 1,500 in September and the future plans are to produce up to 20,000 per month by December. These figures mean Tesla will be looking to produce 240,000 cars per year in full swing, this will cover just over half of the 400,000 on the waiting list.

The Model 3 sits under the Model S executive and the Model X SUV as an entry-level model for the electric automaker's range. It's competitors are likely to be the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes C Class but where the Model 3 really sets itself apart is the fully electric drivetrain.

Elon Musk has promised a 0-60 in under 6 seconds and a minimum driving range of 215 miles. Although this is less than the Model S it is still more range than the majority of other affordable electric cars on sale at present. Musk also announced that the Model 3 would not benefit from the same free charging as the Model S & Model X. The Model 3 would need to pay for access although it hasn't been confirmed how this will be applied whereas the other Models benefit from the free Supercharger fast charging stations.

The Model 3 like other Tesla models offers 2 boots, one in the front and one in the rear and looks like a downsized Model S from the exterior.

It is a 5 seater car with a minimalistic interior which sports a large touchscreen mounted horizontally rather than vertically as in other Tesla's. The touchscreen will also host the speed and gear selection which will be shown in the corner nearest the driver.

All Model 3 cars will feature Tesla's Autopilot technology and will be unlocked for 'Ludicrous mode' which unlocks the full potential of the battery and motor.

With a starting price of £28,500 this model has a much more appealing price tag that has proved successful with its pre-orders.

We can't wait to start seeing these cars on the road very soon!
